Barge conversion and fallpipe design study

This study focuses on the conversion of an existing offshore barge into a self-propelled, manned, DP-barge with rock cargo holds and an inclined fall pipe equipment dumping system.

Rock dumping barge conversion

The objective was to create a design study for the barge conversion and a detailed design study for the fall pipe equipment.The aim for this barge is to mainly work for offshore wind parks. The barge will be equipped with a rock dumping installation for (scour) protection of the offshore wind park foundations. The rock dumping equipment consists of a fall pipe with telescopic end piece for depth adjustments.

The accommodation and bridge (modular) are positioned at half length of the barge. This results in a good overview on the working areas from the bridge and gives better comfort for the crew in heavy seas. The fall pipe is located at half length of the vessel, which is related to vessel motions and logistical setup of the arrangement.
